Warmaster Revolution
infinite_array
For those of you who don't know, there's been a recent upwelling of support for Warmaster thanks to Warmaster Revolution.

If Warmaster Ancients was Version 1.5 of the rules, then Revolution is Version 1.75. There's not a lot of radical changes, and it doesn't speed the game up, but it does go a long way to help with some of the more abusable elements of the original rules.

If you're interested, you can find printable paper counters here and the army builder here (just look under the Revolution tab ).

While I've got Empire, Orcs & Goblins, and Vampire Counts as paper counter armies, my actual miniatures are influenced by the Kickstarter campaigns I got them from.

First, my Dogs of War:

These are a mix of original GW Empire miniatures and figures I got from backing various Warmonger Miniatures campaigns.

My second force is Ogre Kingdoms.

These are from Black Gate Miniatures and from two kickstarters. My third army, Daemons of Chaos, will also be coming from a Black Gate Miniatures kickstarter.

I would have to admit that I did not know this. I never played Warmaster, but I was interested in it. I always liked the miniatures for use on campaigns and such. This was a good find, keep it up.

I've been to a couple tournaments now and I've had a lot of fun. The rules go a long way to making you really feel like a general in charge of a Fantasy army instead of a warband like you get in WHFB. Characters and Magic are their to support your troops, and it's all really about positioning your troops and pushing your luck with order rolls.

Its not that I think that WHFB is a war band. The scale is just not the same. My general thesis is that WFB armies represent basically a cohort or battalion level action. Whereas Warmaster is more likely a Legion or Division level action. That was one of my problems with the 8th in that that set of rules was a step into a larger scale of gaming while still trying to maintain the detail of a cohort level action, which it did a bad job on both ends.

In my view a model usually represents about 4 rank and file miniatures. This would make the 500 of dwarves in The Hobbit basically about a 2K army more or less of WFB. That seems reasonable to me to think of it on that level.
