Interlude with a Vampire
jonathan e
Mordheim's always been my... not guilty pleasure, because guilt is for suckers, but the game I know is imbalanced as hell and still like anyway. It's redolent with atmosphere, very controlled in its setting and aesthetic (at least to start with, I gather things got silly once it became a fully-Online rules set), and occupies exactly the right spot in both my own life story and the history of the Warhammer world.

Such is my love for the City of the Damp that I've started hoarding foamboard display bits from work (the joys of working in a bookshop: publishers send us heaps of the stuff for signings and so on) and intend, once I've figured out little boring things like storage, to put together a wee board for it in my new house.

In the meantime, here's a campaign report from the last time I got to play it on the reg, for a glorious month back in 2008. Despite picking a less than optimal warband for the victory conditions (five lashes and may my beard be shaved in shame!) I did rather well, and it's some of the most fun I've ever had on the tabletop.
