I hope everyone's weekend is going well. I am extremely lucky to be able to have many of the Regiments of Renown and recently played a battle with them. During the battle I had the chance to start getting a better feel for this army (only my 3rd game with them ever) and a few questions came up. In looking up those I ended up reading every Dogs entry in the 6th Edition App's FAQ and actually found an answer to something Tony had brought up earlier.
CANNONS/GALLOPER GUNS: I have Bronzino's Galloper Guns and had a Great Eagle within a foot of the gun. Is it legal to guess 0" for a Cannon guess? I don't think it comes up in most games because regular Cannons have the "Grapeshot" but there doesn't appear to be any "Grapeshot" option for the Gallopers. (Updated Rules in the 2004 Book for Grapeshot by the way! Very cool!) I know this must be in an FAQ or something somewhere for Cannon minimum guess range but for whatever reason I cannot seem to find it.
PAYMASTER RULE: "If the Paymaster is killed, every unit in the Army must take a Panic test at the end of that phase. From that point on, every unit in the Army will Hate the enemy unit that captured the Paymaster's key."
PAYMASTER QUESTION: Does this apply to units that are otherwise Immune to Psychology? Such as: Beorg's Bearmen (Frenzied), Long Drong's Slayer Pirates (Unbreakable), Leopold's Leopards (Immune to Psych). The 2004 Book does not remark either way and I am not seeing anything about it in the App's FAQ. I can see viable RAW arguments for and against but I really couldn't tell you what the RAI are.
CHARACTERS JOINING REGIMENTS OF RENOWN QUESTION: Can generic DoW characters join or embed in Regiments of Renown? Can I put my Wizard or General in Ricco's Ragged Republicans or have them mount up and ride with Voland's Venators? Bronzino can legally leave the Galloper Gun unit he deploys with, can he ride over to the Venators or Al Muktar's Desert Dogs and embed with them? In the App FAQ I am seeing that non DoW Characters may not join or embed with DoW/RoR units. I don't see anything about the DoW/RoR Characters themselves joining RoR and can see it both ways for RAW and RAI again.
FOUND BY ACCIDENT: Generic DoW Characters such as Hireling Wizards MAY NOT be hired by non-DoW Armies per the App who references "Source: Ian Hawkes - Warhammer Design Team." Of course, just like pretty much everything related to Terrain and DoW, I strongly believe the RAI are to let the two players agree on whatever they agree on as long as they are having fun.
Thanks very much to anyone who takes the time to slog through all my nonsense and I greatly appreciate you guys' responses on my questions.

The galloper guns say they act as cannons with a list of exceptions, so grapeshot should still be present because it wasn't removed.mattyfenby wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:14 pm I hope everyone's weekend is going well. As for guessing 0", that seems completely reasonable given that if there's a minimum guess, the rules mention it (e.g. 12" for the mortar). I start wondering when it gets to guessing negative distances (really only meaningful for cannon-like weapons). Guessing -2" seems like something someone might want to do if there's a really close monster and the correspondence to reality breaks at guesses lower than that.
It should not. Immune to Psychology calls out that no other psychology rules apply and on top of that, there are callouts in some books for exceptions (like witch elves still hating high elves even though they'd be immune to other psychology while frenzied). So since it says nothing, the default rule would apply. On the plus side, those units won't be taking the panic test either.

Bronzino seems limited to only joining his teams, though he doesn't have to be in one (presumably to give him time to move from one to another). While I too don't see anything one way or another for characters joining the regiments of renown in general, I would note that they explicitly prevent all characters from joining the Cursed Company, which is only relevant if characters could normally join regiments of renown.

I couldn't find an actual source to the character point in your last paragraph, matty. Once pressed, the FB group basically said "It's law" without offering any example of where it was published. I question it because of that.
That, and the fact that if it WAS forbidden then they would have listed "regiments" that you could hire from DOW rather than "units" as characters are still classified as "units". The same argument could be made for DOW cannons, and I have every intention of adding one to my Beastmen army.

I'm assuming the reference mentioned is this: https://6th.whfb.app/faq#dogs-of-war-re ... -of-renown
They give a source, but it's listed as the word of a designer rather than anything in an official publication, which would explain why the source isn't more specific. It might be possible to find in the Wayback Machine. I might take a look.

Alarantalara, yes that is exactly the source I was looking at.
It’s not the best FAQ answer in the world since it just name drops a rule maker but it at least shows the question has been taken seriously.
Tony, for what it’s worth, I really don’t have a strong opinion either way and I definitely believe that the rule makers intended for battles among two individuals to have whatever those two individuals agree is fun to include. Having said that, I can see why a Tournament organizer might interpret a Hireling Wizard in a Dwarf Army Rare slot as more out of bounds than a Small Cannon in a Beastmen Army Rare slot.
